Greetings this Commonwealth Day, and here as follows is an update on Commonwealth Championship activity this year, so far.
The Spring/Interim Meeting of the Commonwealth Boxing Council will take place on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th April 2014 at the Headquarters of the Commonwealth Secretariat, at Marlborough House, Pall Mall, London SW1.
Confirmation is awaited by close of business this Wednesday 12th April, that Champion Matthews is fit to box and that Queensberry Promotions, who won the right to promote this contest, originally scheduled for this month, can promote the contest on or before 3rd May, failing which the Title will be declared vacant.
After a disappointing end to 2013, and beginning to 2014, with defences cancelled at Welterweight and Lightwelterweight, the CBC will hope that there is more activity in the remaining 10 months of this year, particularly if we see more contests of the calibre of last year’s ‘BBB of C SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD’ winner between Derry Matthews and Tommy Coyle for our Lightweight Championship.
At the British Boxing Board of Control Awards Dinner in London on 21st September, as well as JAMIE MCDONNELL who received our own Dennie Mancini Trophy, current and former Commonwealth Champions were honoured in all but two of the categories :-
